“Not for timeshare trading”

I agree with many things said in the Nov. 2005 review EXCEPT that not every condo is up to par. My husband and I traded our timeshare for a 1 bedroom condo at the Kuleana. We were shocked at the run-down appearance of the lobby (or the make-shift lobby) as well as the kitchen in the condo they gave us. We called 3 times before arrival to confirm that they had our reservation on file but they never called us back. When we arrived we got the same indifferent treatment. After seeing the condo we asked if we could change but were told that there were only a few condos for people like us that traded. Apparently the complex (which aside from the lobby is very nice) has a mix of permanent residents, timeshare "owners", hotel type "per day" rentals, and timeshares that are used for "trading". From the looks of things, those of us who are not "owners" get the bottom of the barrel condos. The saving grace is that our timeshare was paid off years ago and we only paid the "transfer fee" so the cost of the condo was @ $50 per day. For that price it was worth it.

“Great Maui Condo location!”

The Kuleana is north of Kaanapali and south of Kahana and Napili. It is the BEST place to stay if you don't want the hassle of kids & noise and congestion, definitely not for small children. The pool area is wonderful, quiet and clean. The condos are all ocean facing and lots are ocean front. You can watch the sea turtles every morning and sorkeling access is right there. You have a great view of Molokai & Lania, wonderful sunsets & ocean breezes. There's a BBQ & laundry facilities (bring quarters), grocery store nearby and not a far drive to restaurants & shops in either direction. A great day trip is to go around the north end of the island, roads are safe and less windy than going to Hana, not much traffic and great places to stop for photos; take a picnic lunch - no facilities along the way until you get to the other side. Trip takes about 2 hours, depending on your stops; very steep access to beaches...Snorkeling @ the marine reserve, just north of Kahana is great! Roy's @ Kahana center is awesome (pricey but worth it).

“Will Go Back to Kuleana”

My husband & I spent the last three weeks of March 2004 at the Kuleana Club, north of Lahaina, Maui, HI. This was our second trip in as many years, and we had a marvelous time both trips.

The condo we got this year was a one-bedroom, one bath, quite small because of amount of furniture owner has in there. 'Way too much for a small condo. Even so, just the two of us got along very well there.
Things were neat and clean. We found in the condo Scotch tape, stapler, scissors, laundry soap, clothes basket, some etable white sugar, cleaning materials, etc., all of which were unexpected, but welcome. Up on the third floor condo, we could look out on our lanai and watch the whales, cruise ships, snorkelers, etc., or just relax and read. Kuleana Club has a very nice pool and the grounds are well tended and lush Our condo had a bedroom, bath, kitchenette, LR, and lanai, cable TV, CD player. Advertisement indicates condo will sleep 4, but don't know where!! We walked to the Farmer's Market 3x each week and really loved their fresh fruits, especially pineapple of which they offered samples.
You can find eating places in keeping with every taste and budget, or prepare own meal in your kitchen. Not air conditioned, but fans in LR & BR were sufficient, we thought, and opening front door (has secure screen) made for a delightful draft through the condo. Ocean breezez are very cooling there and temperatures are purely balmy. Washers & dryers on premises. 'Lots of things to do and see. Will be going back in a year or two. My husband and I love it there. I have a clue for travel to Maui, if anyone is interested.
